Restoration Services
I take on large and small projects from a simple clock cleaning to a full case restoration and movement overhaul.
Watch or Clock Servicing
I carry out servicing and overhaul of all types of antique clocks, watches, barometers and other scientific instruments, including:
French Marble clocks
Longcase (Grandfather) clocks
Carriage clocks
American wall clocks
Vienna regulators
Pocket watches
Barographs
Mercury and Aneroid Barometers
Repairs
Where parts are worn, broken or simply missing, new replacement parts, for example mainsprings, can often be sourced.
If neccessary, parts can also be made or refinished. I have the tools needed to turn or mill new parts, to rebush clock plates, and to refinish pivots and other critical components in antique timepieces.
I also carry out repairs to the wordwork of clock cases.
Restoration and Conservation
Frequently I am asked to advise on the appropriate steps to take to restore or conserve important antique and heritage timepieces. Sometimes these projects require great care in the use of appropriate materials including glues and polishes that are appropriate for a sympathetic conservation of heritage pieces.
However very often the value of a particular clock or watch to its owner has more to do with it being a cherished family heirloom, rather than its age or rarity.
Regardless of why you value your timepiece, I apply the same thorough and rigorous approach to each project.
